8Welcome to Avon Music. I would like to first thank everyone for making me feel so welcome here. I have many exciting things to teach the kids as well as the performance in the spring.
Since I am new to your school, I would like to take a moment and tell you a little about myself.
I have been teaching music and band for 18 years in the public schools. I have my Bachelor Degree in Music Education from Illinois State University and my Masters from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. I play many different instruments and will incorporate that into my teaching. I believe hands-on is the best way for students to learn and I keep the students very active and engaged during class.
I play flute in the North Suburban Wind Ensemble (http://www.northsuburbanwindensemble.com) which is a 70 member band that plays high level music. We have 4 concerts a year based in Libertyville. I would love to see some of my students and their families in the audience. Check out the websites for concert dates and times.
Some of the areas of music that will be taught throughout the year will be:
Music layering in technology, Rhythm/steady beat, Music Genres, World Music, Recorders for 3rd and 4th graders, Instrument Families, Composers, Music for different Holidays, Reading music notation.
